China’s First Batch of Flexible Manufacturing Intelligent Welding Robot Integration for Offshore Engineering Completed

On August 11, COOEC announced that the country’s first batch of independently developed intelligent welding robot equipment systems for flexible manufacturing in offshore engineering had completed integrated assembly in Tianjin and entered the testing and acceptance stage, marking a breakthrough in flexible manufacturing technology at a key node of China’s offshore oil and gas equipment.

Flexible manufacturing can quickly adapt to changes in demand, design, and manufacturing. The intelligent welding robot developed this time features visual recognition capabilities, strong flexibility and environmental adaptability, and is suitable for multi-variety customized welding in complex environments. Its development involves multidisciplinary cross-cutting technologies, mastered by only a few countries worldwide. The three integrated sets of equipment can realize functions such as intelligent fit-up and welding for pipe-joint prefabrication and welding of reinforcement rings for deepwater jackets. A single unit has a maximum load capacity of 30 tons, a designed service life of 20 years, and 100% independently developed core software and process database.

To overcome the challenge of welding accuracy in offshore engineering, the project team innovated engineering concepts and achieved more than 10 technological innovations, including AI-based visual recognition of weld seams and intelligent trajectory deviation correction. Intelligent welding can be completed with one-click start. The team is currently advancing commissioning and acceptance, driving the equipment to upgrade toward “welding more precisely and welding faster.”
