Sanhuajian: The Sili River Initial Rainwater Interception Project Revitalizes Urban Ecology

The Hefei Sili River Water Body Compliance Remediation Project—Initial Rainwater Interception, Storage, and Treatment Project—undertaken by China National Chemical Engineering Corporation Third Construction Co., Ltd. (Sanhuajian), has passed final acceptance and entered commissioning and operation. Integrating the sponge city concept, it achieves unity of “water safety, water environment, and water landscape,” providing replicable experience for the city’s connotative development.

This project is Sanhuajian’s first urban renewal project exceeding RMB 100 million since relocating to Hefei, featuring four storage and detention tanks (total capacity: 30,500 cubic meters) and supporting facilities. During construction, the team addressed challenges with the principle of “planning for projects and standards for work,” unified processes through a “model-first” approach, introduced intelligent equipment such as fully automatic rebar cage winding machines, and adopted methods including low headroom equipment and sectional hoisting to overcome construction difficulties. A four-tier quality management system was established, 19 new construction technologies were applied, and the project won honors including the “Luzhou Cup” award.

The project also innovatively adopted technologies such as slurry balance pipe jacking and high formwork support, integrating an intelligent central control system. The detention tanks were built entirely underground to save space, while an “eco-vitality rainwater garden” was created at ground level. After being put into operation, it improves watershed water quality and alleviates urban waterlogging. In the future, Sanhuajian will promote the “Hefei experience” to support green urban development.
